Matt is a successful businessman/CEO and MBA graduate.
He is 32 years old, married and a father of 2 young children.
On Monday 22nd September, Matt had planned to be in New York for an important work conference, but felt compelled to stay behind to protest the abortion issue.
He has informed his staff to include him in any meeting via mobile phone, or to join him on the steps of Parliament.
SOME THOUGHTS FROM MY DAD…
Life begins at conception. When the father’s sperm meets the mother’s egg, a new life is formed – a tiny person.
This tiny person is not the mother’s body – it lives inside the mother’s body where it is to be nurtured and protected.
Because it is a person like us (only younger and smaller) it has rights like us.
We have laws that recognize that. For example a mother to be who acts irresponsibly causing potential harm to her unborn baby may be prosecuted.
Extraordinarily and contradictorily, we also have laws that allow a mother to take the life of her baby!
Women have abortions for a variety of reasons: Because their life is in danger, because the baby may be deformed or handicapped, because they cannot afford a child, because of rape, because it is inconvenient at that time, because of illegitimacy etc.
MOST of the reasons for abortion are not life threatening– the major reason is one of inconvenience or suffering. Abortion is seen as a quick fix to the problem. Our laws support that.
HOWEVER, by comparison, many other life crises and problems can also be solved with a quick fix which our laws DO NOT allow. For example bankruptcy is a very stressful situation which could be solved by stealing. But our laws forbid stealing because:
(a)People who are robbed speak up about their plight, their voices are heard and laws enacted.
(b)Lawmakers and politicians understand that they are also at risk of being robbed.
Compare that with unborn babies. They have no such leverage with lawmakers and politicians because.
(a)Babies cannot speak for themselves and they do not yet understand the issues
(b)Abortion does not put politicians and lawmakers at risk. They left the womb safely long ago and have escaped the risk for all time.
The question begs to be answered: WHO will be a voice for unborn babies?
What is also missed is the fact that both stealing and abortion are simply wrong.
EUPHEMISMS
Because abortion is blatantly wrong in almost every case, it requires clever use of words to disguise it – by euphemisms and other words that fog the issues. Here are some of them and the words that should be used:
Foetus – baby
Termination of pregnancy – taking the life of the baby. (Even this is a euphemism)
Pro choice – pro taking the life of the baby
Hard decisions must be made – deciding to take the life of the baby
My own body – the baby
Women’s rights – unborn baby’s rights
Family planning clinic – place where unborn babies are killed
Unwanted pregnancy – unwanted baby
WHAT IS NEEDED?
(a)To recognize that more liberal abortion laws will open the floodgates even wider and many more thousands of unborn babies will lose their lives. (Lose their lives - another euphemism – necessary because we have been so indoctrinated with euphemisms that when more accurate words are used people say the writer is being emotional)
(b)To recognize that the baby has a life of equal value to the life of anyone else, including the mother.
(c)Courage and faith to go ahead with a pregnancy and, with the help of family, friends and Government, work through the issues – just as would a person dealing with any other life stress like bankruptcy.
(d)Laws that support the above principles instead of encouraging abortion and opening the floodgates for those who live for themselves and have no high life principles.
